Our Story
Raka is not your average creative and interactive agency. Our past defines our present. Partners Daniel Marino, Duncan Craig and Zang Garside all worked together at Wunderkind Studios (previously known as Eyeon Interactive). Dan and Duncan were both creative leads under the creative direction of Stephen Rakaseder, who was affectionately known as Raka. Stephen mentored Dan and Duncan and taught them to find the soul of a design, to create the beauty of a visual image from scratch and give it depth and meaning. Everyone who knew and worked with Stephen loved him, and he taught everyone a great deal about design in particular and life in general.
Stephen lost a heroic battle with cancer on July 24, 2001. Soon after, his wife Lisa came to Wunderkind and told us that Stephen had left two legacies behind. The first was his children and the second, his company. She explained that she was responsible for carrying on half of his legacy by raising his children, and that we were responsible for carrying on the other half of his legacy.
Though Wunderkind was sold and dissolved in 2003, we never forgot Lisa’s words. So in July of 2004, three years after Stephen’s death (almost to the day), Dan and Duncan incorporated a new studio named after Raka to carry on his legacy. Zang joined them in 2005. Their goal from the beginning was to build the type of creative agency that Stephen would have built, and to maintain a team that would recognize and support that vision.
In 2001, along with Stephen’s friends and family, we created a website in memory of Stephen. The website is meant to serve as a book of photos and stories so that we can smile and remember our friend.
Our companies manage a lot of websites – and Raka has built every one. They are the best in the business. They rock the design with an eye toward function and use, and they work with you as a true partner to help you achieve your business goals. As if that weren't enough, they are good people. They're thoughtful about their work culture and the community around them. What's not to like? I give them my strongest recommendation for any design or interactive project.
