For years, HubSpot’s INBOUND conference has been the marketing event to look forward to every year. This event and methodology shaped how we think about attracting, engaging, and delighting our customers.

But, as the modern marketing landscape evolves, so are the expectations placed on brands.

This shift from INBOUND to UNBOUND signals something bigger than a name change; it’s a turning point in how modern marketing strategies are built and executed.

Why the shift from INBOUND to UNBOUND?

Today’s customer journey is no longer linear, predictable, or confined to a single channel. We are now living in a new age where AI, fragmented attention, and constant change are all around us.

HubSpot’s UNBOUND 2026 reflects this new reality.

It's not about leaving the inbound methodology behind, but expanding on the foundation we have built to create a more connected and dynamic approach that meets the new demands of modern marketing.

Simply put, UNBOUND is a testament to the fact that growth needs to span the entire customer journey and not be bound by the principles we once knew.

What UNBOUND signals about modern marketing

This shift is not just a reflection on HubSpot or the inbound methodology we once knew, but also a signal of how modern marketing will take shape in the years to come.

Here’s what this shift really signals:

  • From automation to intelligence: Marketing is moving past static workflows and is moving towards AI-powered systems that respond in real-time
  • From channels to communities: Audiences are no longer passive. They participate, share, and help influence brand perception, making community building a core part of marketing strategies moving forward.
  • From campaigns to continuous engagement: Instead of isolated initiatives, marketing is becoming an always-on system that evolves with the customer journey.

Ultimately, “unbound” is less about abandoning inbound principles and more about expanding beyond their original structure, evolving them with the added momentum of Loop Marketing tactics.

What to expect at UNBOUND 2026

UNBOUND 2026 will take place September 16–18 in Boston, Massachusetts, bringing together marketers, leaders, and innovators from around the world to connect this new “Unbound” methodology with real-world applications.

The event will feature a mix of keynotes, breakout sessions, networking opportunities, and product demos; each focused on helping marketers move from theory to execution.

While the full speaker lineup hasn’t been announced yet, past INBOUND stages have featured names like Colin Jost and Amy Poehler, so it’s safe to say the bar is pretty high (and the humor usually is too).

If previous years are any indication, 2026 will likely bring another standout lineup of speakers and events we’ll be excited to attend and reference in Slack for weeks afterward.
